A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall consisting of a gold eagle affront, grasping in its beak a pair of blue scales, its lower body and legs surmounted by a blue seven-pointed star on which is centered a white globe with gold rim and gridlines all supported by a gold oval-shaped laurel wreath; above the eagle's head and surmounting the top of the laurel wreath on each side a blue arced scroll inscribed "TMDE" in gold letters.
The eagle represents the military nature of the United States Army Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment Activity. The balance denotes the functions of measurement and calibration and the requirements for accuracy and precision. The star and globe suggest worldwide service and multi-directional support. Blue and white allude to the exacting standards met by the organization in accomplishing its unique mission. The gold laurel wreath, symbolic of excellence and achievement, represents the organization's significant role in the United States Army.
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the U.S. Army Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment Support Group on 15 April 1983. It was amended to add a symbolism on 22 July 1983. The insignia was redesignated for the U.S. Army Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment Activity with the description and symbolism revised effective 1 May 1991.
